Coco Collection declared Top Contributor for Manta Ray and Sea Turtle Research Programmes

For the keen followers of Coco Collection, it should come as no surprise that ocean friends such as Manta Rays and Sea Turtles have a special place in our hearts. We always strive to contribute to the efforts to learn about their population, migration and habitats.

Our Resident Marine Biologist, Chiara Fumagalli, works tirelessly with guests and associates who want to be involved in our eco-initiatives during snorkeling and scuba diving trips at Coco Bodu Hithi and Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu. Due to the invaluable efforts of Chiara along with our guests and associates, Coco Collection has been declared number one by the Manta Trust for the entire year of 2013 when it comes to submitting new individuals to the database. Apart from being the top submitter of new Manta Rays, we are also recognized as the 2nd top submitter of overall sightings to the Manta Trust Database. Over the last year, we have submitted details of 24 new Mantas and 93 sightings to the Manta Trust.

Manta Trust is a non-profit organization that we maintain a close relationship with and assist in their research, education and awareness projects regarding the Maldivian Manta Ray population, which now has a listed 3000 individuals in the Manta Trust Database!

We have also been recognized by the Maldives Turtle Identification Project for which we identify new turtles and submit sightings to their database. Marine Savers, in collaboration with Seamarc, has recognized us as the 2nd most frequent ID submitter for the Turtle Identification program in 2013, with 159 sightings sent in by Chiara over the past 12 months, along with our guests and associates.

We are proud to be part of this initiative by Manta Trust, Marine Savers and Seamarc and thank them for the recognition of our efforts. We are also grateful to have a group of guests and associates who are conscious of the environmental efforts that Coco Collection is part of and thank them for their continued support.

And on behalf of everyone who supports these initiatives, thank you Chiara for your untiring efforts and growing passion for these activities! We are truly lucky to have you on board as part of our team.
